Safe Patient Handling
You cannot afford to get injured and neither can the people who depend on you. This means that if you are caring for someone at home, your number one priority is to stay healthy. And, in order to stay healthy, you have to know how to deliver that care properly. Without injury.
At Prism Medical, we understand the importance of remaining injury free. Your safety is important to us. That’s why we take the time to make sure you’re fully trained. Preventing injury means more than simply having the proper, professionally installed equipment. You have to know how to use that equipment properly. According to the principles of good body mechanics.
At Prism Medical we believe it is our job to equip you with knowledge. We provide training that allows you to move or transfer someone according to the principles of good body mechanics. Our equipment is no good unless you are using it correctly and with confidence.
Maintaining good body mechanics when lifting or transferring someone is a good way to ensure your back and neck remain healthy and avoid injury. Posture is a key component in this formula. Good posture usually the spine is in a neutral, or resting position. When moving a patient. Avoid quick, jerking movements. Remain in a position of strength at all times. Do not twist your torso when lifting.
We can schedule training sessions to be convenient for you. The training we provide proceeds according to your pace. We don’t consider or job complete until you are completely comfortable with your equipment and are using it safely.
Prism Medical’s training program will ensure that you are not only comfortable with how to work your new equipment, but that you remain vigilant to the ergonomic practices and good body mechanics which will ensure you avoid injury. Equipment is only as good as the people using it and only if they are using it safely.
